The 4 step framework for IG growth

Hey Reader,

I'm personally a big fan of frameworks.

framework: a basic structure underlying a system or concept.

Why?

For someone who is as interested in learning as I am, I need a way to make sure I retain as much information as possible, and having frameworks for different things is one of my favorite ways of doing so.

I have frameworks for writing, sales, content creation and any skill I decide is worth learning.

With time and experience building several Instagram accounts, I’ve also been able to create my own framework for it.

This framework consists of the essential elements that need to be in place for you to start seeing good results in terms of follower growth on Instagram.

And the more I learn about other platforms like:

  • Twitter,
  • LinkedIn,
  • YouTube.

I’m discovering that this framework applies to them to different extents as well.

So this is a social media growth framework at its core.

Today, I’ll be breaking down the 4 elements of this framework in its simplest form.

I’ve also created a helpful anagram for these elements as well for ease of my recall and yours as well.

Let's dive in.

The PECC framework for Instagram growth:

PECC as an anagram stands for:

  • Profile setup/optimization
  • Engagement strategy
  • Content strategy
  • Consistency

If you’re not getting the results you want on Instagram or another social media platform, the issue is usually always because you’re lacking one or multiple of these elements.

Let’s break them down.

1. Profile optimization:

Having a well-optimized profile is a must to see good results in terms of follower growth.

The best part is that it’s something that you only have to do once and it doesn’t take too long.

However, it can pay huge returns in the long run.

For Instagram, this means making sure you have:

  • A clear profile picture that shows your face with your brand colors as a background(you can use www.pfpmaker.com
  • A handle that is easy to remember and isn’t too long
  • Relevant industry keywords related to your niche in your headline/name section
  • A bio that focuses on your target audience and explains how you can help them achieve their goals
  • 3 to 5 relevant highlights

For other platforms like Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn, this includes your cover/header image as well and excludes your highlights.

2. Engagement strategy:

As a small account, interacting with posts on other accounts for at least an hour daily is an absolute must - especially on platforms like Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

On Instagram, here’s how I recommend going about this :

1. Find 15 big accounts in your niche with over 10K followers that post regularly and get good engagement through:

  • The Instagram search bar
  • Niche-specific hashtags

2. Then turn on their post notifications(click the bell on the top right of their account after following) so you can always be part of the first set of people to comment.

Once they post something new, you’ll be notified so go and comment ASAP..

The goal is to make your comments so valuable that some of these bigger accounts will pin it to their comments section.

This way, you can leverage their large audience and drive traffic to your own account.

3. Engage with smaller accounts who are doing the same in their comment section.

It’s not complicated.

Be human and share your thoughts.

And don’t be one of those people who copy and paste the same irrelevant comment everywhere or promote themselves by saying things like “check out my profile for …

That stuff doesn't work and is just a waste of time.

3. Content strategy:

This is the most important part. If you get everything else right except this then you won’t get results.

For most people, this is where their issues lie.

That’s because while it’s the most important part, it’s also the most complicated.

The strategy varies from one social media platform to another and even from one account to the other on the same platform.

For Instagram, you need to learn writing, designing carousels and single images, and recording reels.

For Twitter, you need to learn writing and how to structure tweets and threads.

For TikTok, you need to learn how to record short-form video

There are so many skills to learn and while some of them definitely cross over - like writing, it’s still a bit overwhelming.

That’s why if you’re doing this on your own and don’t have any team supporting you, I recommend focusing on one platform to start with.

If that platform is Instagram, here’s how to go about thinking about your content strategy:

First, choose 3 to 5 content pillars related to your niche - these are topics that you would create content about.

Examples:

For the social media niche - content, engagement, consistency

For the self-development niche - mindset, habits, productivity

And so on.

Then generate content ideas based on these pillars using:

Finally, start posting daily or 5 times a week for 3 months straight.

You can either cycle between reels, single posts, and carousels weekly if you have the skills for all of them.

Or focus on one - carousels for example if you’re a designer or reels if you’re already comfortable with video.

Then check your insights after the 3 months to see what type and format of content is performing best and double down on that.

Double down on what works and cut everything else out.

If you want to dive deeper into this, check out The Content Creation Blueprint.

It'll teach you everything I've learned over the past 3 years about creating content that gets results and actually grows your audience on Instagram in 11 easy-to-follow chapters spread over 80 pages.

4. Consistency:

I’d say this is the second most important after your content strategy.

This is because even the best content strategy means nothing if you stop doing it after a week.

Rome wasn’t built in a day - cliche but true.

There’s a reason why I mentioned 3 months when I was discussing the content strategy.

It’s because this is the minimum amount of time necessary to start seeing good results, especially on a small account.

The problem?

Most people quit before that time.

And it’s understandable.

It’s hard to keep going when you don’t see the results of what you’re doing, it’s one of the most un-motivating things ever.

But you need to do it.

The only piece of good news though is that if you commit to never giving up, your success is guaranteed and it’s only a matter of time.

If you need some extra guidance and step-by-step tips on how to stay more consistent, make sure you check out The Content Creation Blueprint. The entire 11th chapter is dedicated to it.

Remember, nothing can stop you except yourself.

So keep going.

Don’t quit.
